Long FO Post

Hi there. Remember me? It’s been a little while, so this will be a long post.

First off, I did finish Wicked.

It’s not what I had hoped for, it’s too big around the hem, and the arms are also too big. But I didn’t want to frog and knit again.

Pattern: Wicked
Yarn: Rowan All Seasons Cotton in Mocha, 6 or 7 skeins (don’t remember)
Needles: US 7
Mods: Left out front pocket.

Next up, I finished my Noro socks.

I am so happy with these socks. The plain stockinette made for a simple, quick knit, and I really liked the different toe-up method – no short rows! The yarn was great, too. I know some people don’t like it a lot because it’s a little bit thick-and-thin, and it does break kind of easily, but in spite of that I really enjoyed working with it.

Pattern: Wendy’s Toe-Up Socks (has to be one of the easiest methods out there)
Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock, 1 skein, color S164
Needles: US 1

And, I also finished a sweater I never blogged about, Green Gable.

This was very quick, easy and fun. I think I may be finished with short-sleeved top-down raglans, though. By the time I’ve reached the appropriate bust measurement, the sleeves are way too big, and flare out at the ends. I have made mid-to-long-sleeved top-down raglans that fit well, so I think I’ll just have to stick with those.

Pattern: Green Gable
Yarn: Cascade Sierra, 4 skeins in Color 403
Needles: US 6 (4mm) & US 4 (3.5 mm)
Mods: Added waist shaping, shortened lace section, lengthened body.

See you next time with some cowls!

Catching Up

I haven’t been blogging very much lately, so I have a few things to catch up on.

First, my sister, Priscilla gave me the ‘You Make My Day Award.’

I’ve been enjoying baking quite a bit lately. It’s a good thing, because just about all I was doing in my free time was knitting. That wasn’t a bad thing, but when you wake up in the morning and your left thumb is asleep and a bit painful from so much knitting you need to find a few other things to do in your spare time.

So I baked cookies last night. It was fun, and the peanut butter cookies are absolutely delicious!

Wicked is blocking for the second time (more on that later), and I’ve cast on for two new projects. First, the Waving Lace Socks from Favorite Socks in Socks that Rock Rose Quartz. I’m really enjoying the yarn and pattern.

And, of course, I had to cast on for a sweater.

This is Glee, in Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy. I really like this color. I must admit, though, that I’ll probably cast on for something else, soon – my current projects are on size US 4 needles or smaller, and I’d like to have something on larger needles to work on!

Lastly, about three weeks ago, my sister Priscilla got a new puppy.

He’s a chocolate lab and his name is Lewis (our other dog’s name is Clark). He’s darling and we all love him. He’s developed a love for my knitting, though.

This is some of what he’s done. I’m just glad he hasn’t cut any yarn yet! He took two bags of yarn out from under my bed the other day, got a skein out of one of the bags and left it under my sister’s bed. His other favorite thing is my sister’s pair of Crocs. He hasn’t ruined those yet, either, though – we’ve gotten them away from him in time!

Hope you all have a great weekend and Mother’s Day!

Knitting & Baking

Hi everyone, I didn’t mean to be gone that long. There has been knitting going on, and some baking, too.

First, here’s Wicked.

It’s actually finished and blocking now. I’ll post finished photos when it’s dry. Top down raglans have to be the fastest knits ever – I think it took about two weeks to knit this sweater.

I finished the Embossed Leaves Socks.

Details here.

For quite a long time I didn’t really want to bake. I used to bake pretty much every weekend, and then my sisters started baking more and I wanted to do nothing but knit. But, I’ve been baking more the last few weeks, and I’m really enjoying it.

1. Grasshopper Cupcakes, 2. Cranberry Pumpkin Bread, 3. Giant Ginger Cookies, 4. Classic Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies, 5. Chocolate Cream Pie, 6. Thick Coconut Custard Pie

I’ll share my new projects, and hopefully more baking, next time. Have a great weekend everyone!

WIP Wednesday

The Katharine Vest failure took the wind out of my sweater-knitting sails, so to speak.

It’s been good for sock knitting, though.

And for the Babette Blanket.

I did finally cast on for a sweater last night, though.

The beginning of Wicked, in Rowan All Seasons Cotton.

Knitting Update

Well, I did finish (or nearly finish) the Katharine Vest last weekend.

All it needs is the neckline edging. But, I decided to try it on before knitting the edging. And it doesn’t fit. I overlapped the front edges by about 6″ instead of the 2″ specified in the pattern, but it still fits much like the photo in the magazine. I was after a much more closed look, and I really don’t want to knit this pattern again, so it will be frogged and turned into a shawl.

I also need to frog this:

Yes, that’s about 7″ of the Woolen Twinset Cardigan on size 3 needles. I put it onto two circular needles and tried it on – it’s about 2″ – 3″ too big. I will be making this again, but I’ll wait a few months until it’s closer to fall. At least I’ll have less stitches per row next time!

So, I’ve been working on my toe-up socks:

They’re ready for the heel turning now.

And more Babette Squares:

For Project Spectrum, Phase 1: Fire

For Project Spectrum, Phase 2: Earth.

The blanket’s coming along really well, and I’m looking forward to it being finished. I’m getting nervous about whether I have enough yarn for it, though.

FO: Oak Ribbed Socks

I was able to finish them by the end of the month to keep up with my goal of knitting a pair of socks per month this year.

A French Heel and Round Toe – I like both.

Another great pair of socks from this book. I didn’t want to take them off after the photo shoot!

I’ve now completed the four simple ribbed sock patterns in the beginning of the book.
L – R: Lichen Ribbed Socks, Madder Ribbed Socks, Yarrow Ribbed Socks, Oak Ribbed Socks. Next in the book are the Gentleman’s Shooting Stockings. I hope to purchase yarn for them soon. It’ll be my first time downsizing a sock pattern, and I hope it goes well.

The Weekend Can Really Help Your Knitting

If you do almost nothing but knit, that is. Of course, you can also end up with a sore thumb, but that’s of no importance compared to the progress you’ve made 🙂

Anyways, here’s the progress I made over the weekend.

On the Woolen Twinset Cardigan, I finished the second ball of 4-Ply Soft and now 6″ of the body is done.

The first of the Oak Ribbed Socks is done and the cuff is finished on the second sock.

The Katharine Vest was swatched for.

I’m itching to start this project right away so I can wear it on a trip we’re planning in a few weeks, but I’ve decided to hold off on it until I’ve finished the Stained Glass Scarf.

I finished the third ball of Aurora 8 and started the fourth and last one this morning. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel with this one – it was feeling like it would never end.

I’ve got the Babette Blanket in progress too, but it’s been moved to the back burner. I’m hoping that’ll change soon, though. After all, sewing the squares together is one of the best parts, right?

Lastly, The Mitered Square Blanket is blocking and is almost dry. I’m hoping to do a photo shoot this week.
